Welcome to the 2016-2017 school year!
We are proud to provide our students with an exemplary standards-based curriculum. Westhoff sets high expectations for each child and provides support for attaining success. This year Westhoff will launch a K-5 program called Project Lead the Way. This engaging program provides hands-on activities, projects and problem-solving that creates an integrated learning experience, blending computer science, engineering, biomedical science and more. Whether designing a car safety belt or building digital animations based on their own short stories students engage in critical creative thinking, building teamwork skills, and learn to try and try again when faced with challenges. PLTW encourages cross-disciplinary learning and adds relevance to the classroom.
All classrooms continue implementation of our California Common Core Standards and teaching strategies. Critical thinking, communication, creativity and collaboration are emphasized across curricular areas. As a school and district we emphasize teaching strategies that serve our students in the core subjects, technical skills and life/career skills necessary for middle school and beyond.
Westhoff is very proud of all our accomplishments including recognition as a National Blue Ribbon School and three consecutive California Distinguished School recognitions and most recently as a California Gold Ribbon School.
In addition to our strong curricular program, Westhoff encourages, models and exemplifies positive character traits. Monthly focuses include: kindness, self-control, empathy, tolerance, trustworthiness, responsibility, perseverance, honesty and respect. Recently Westhoff was awarded a “Gold Level” implementation for our school wide behavioral program called, Positive Behavior Intervention School (PBIS).
Research shows that parents and family involvement play a significant role in determining children's intelligence, competence and achievement. Therefore, it is imperative that school and family work together to assure each child reach their full potential. Strong lines of communication and family involvement are essential to student success. Welcome to Westhoff Elementary School. It’s going to be a GREAT year!
